PRECISION DIGITAL understands that it can be difficult to estimate the cost of a scanning project upfront, as there are a number of additional factors that will affect your final cost. You can determine costs based on your type of media you want digitized and how many sheets/images need to be scanned based on your method of storage.
You can use the information below to estimate how many sheets you have so you can enter that and other project requirements in our Pricing Calculator. Based on your input, you will receive an estimated PRECISION DIGITAL cost verses an industry standard cost.

You can manually figure out your scanning costs using the information below.
We normally scan to .tiff, 300 DPI, 24-bit colour and output multipage PDF. If you want different settings, let us know and we can accommodate your request, like .jpeg or .png, 150 or 600 DPI and greyscale or B&W.
How to calculate the quantity of paper documents you have.
A standard bankers box (12″ x 15″ x 10″) holds approximately 2000 sheets of paper inside . Multiply 2000 by the number of boxes you have to get a rough guess of the total number of documents you have.
A long bankers box (24“ x 15“ x 10“), or a transfer file box, can store approximately 4,000 documents.
If you have loose paper or folders, there are approximately 140 sheets per inch or 1700 per foot.

How to calculate the quantity of images per sheet of microfiche you have.
Microfiche—flat strips of microfilm images stored in a clear Mylar sleeve or “jacket”, comes primarily in two formats.

A 16 mm microfilm jacket (4″ × 6″) with film strips has about 60 images.

A 35 mm microfilm jacket (5″ × 8″) holds around 30 images.
COM fiche (Computer Output Microforms) are produced by printing computer-generated data directly onto film, creating the equivalent of hundreds of miniaturized documents arranged in a grid.

How to know if your documents are Large Format.
Any document larger than 11" x 17” is considered to be a large format document.
We can scan up to 44” wide by any length.

The reason for the “large format document” distinction is the need for special scanning equipment when working with oversized documents.
How to estimate the number of pages in your Books.
Take an average size book if your books are of a lot of different thicknesses and count it pages if not numbered. If the pages are numbered, double that, 2 images per page, and multiply that by the number of books.
How to calculate the quantity of images per roll of microfilm you have.
Microfilm or roll film is wound onto reels and can hold either 16mm or 35mm film, with 35mm more commonly used for large documents, like newspapers.

A 16 mm roll film: a 100-foot roll will often contain ~ 2,000 images

A a longer 16 mm roll (215 ft, thinner base) one estimate is ~ 5,000 images.
